Goyang City Enrolls in Citizen Safety Insurance... Now Covers Death and Disability from Shared Personal Mobility Devices

Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Donghwan) announced on January 8 that it has enrolled in the "2026 Goyang Special City Citizen Safety Insurance" to enhance the stability and welfare of Goyang residents who may suffer damages from disasters or various accidents that can occur in daily life.

All citizens who are registered residents of Goyang Special City (including registered foreign nationals and overseas Koreans) are automatically enrolled without any additional procedures, and the city covers the entire insurance premium.

The insurance period runs from January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026. Compensation can be received even if the individual holds other insurance policies, and coverage is provided not only for incidents occurring within Goyang but also for accidents that happen anywhere nationwide.

The compensation items include: ▲ Death, permanent disability, and injury diagnosis consolation payments due to social disasters (excluding infectious diseases) ▲ Death, permanent disability, and injury diagnosis consolation payments due to natural disasters (including heatstroke and sunstroke) ▲ Death, permanent disability, and disaster expense support due to explosions, fires, collapses, and landslides ▲ Death and permanent disability from injuries sustained while using public transportation (including chartered buses) ▲ Death and permanent disability from injuries involving personal mobility devices (for shared use) ▲ Medical expenses for injuries from school zone traffic accidents, totaling 14 categories.

In particular, this year, reflecting the rapid increase in users of personal mobility devices, a new compensation item for death and permanent disability involving shared personal mobility devices has been added to address previously uncovered risk areas.

The insurance claim process is as follows: ▲ Accident occurs ▲ Contact the insurance company’s integrated call center ▲ Submit the claim form and required documents ▲ Insurance company reviews documents (determines payment eligibility and, if necessary, investigates the accident) ▲ Insurance payment is made. Claims can be filed within three years from the date of the accident.

An official from Goyang Special City stated, "Citizen Safety Insurance serves as a minimum social safety net for residents facing difficulties due to disasters or accidents," adding, "We will continue to do our utmost to create a safe urban environment where citizens can live with peace of mind."
