Literary Critic Im Junyeol Appointed as New Director of the National Korean Literature Museum

Appointed on January 8, Three-Year Term

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on January 8 that it has appointed literary critic Im Junyeol as the new director of the National Korean Literature Museum. His term will last for three years.

The new director, Im Junyeol, who is also known by his pen name Im Heonyoung, is a literary critic who has published numerous academic papers and books, including more than 15 collections of literary criticism. He has gained extensive experience in the literary field by actively participating in various literary organizations such as the Korean Literary Critics Association, the Writers Association of Korea, and the Korean Writers’ Association.


The National Korean Literature Museum is an institution established to collect, preserve, exhibit, and research Korean literary materials, as well as to promote literature to the public. Construction is currently underway in Jingwan-dong, Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, with the goal of opening in the first half of 2027.


Choi Hwiyeong, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated, "We expect the new director to enhance the credibility of the National Korean Literature Museum through communication with the literary community and a commitment to public interest, and to lead it as an open literary space where writers and the public can come together."
