Daesang Gunsan Plant Obtains Global HACCP Certification: "Strengthening Global Food Safety Competitiveness"

Integrated Management System Certification for Preventing Food Safety Incidents
Proactive Adoption to Accelerate Global Expansion of K-Food

On January 8, Daesang announced that its starch factory located in Gunsan, North Jeolla Province, has obtained 'Global HACCP' certification to establish a food safety management system that meets global standards.

'Global HACCP,' introduced by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in August last year to keep pace with changes in domestic and international food manufacturing environments and standards, is an integrated management system. It supplements the existing mandatory HACCP evaluation criteria with additional measures for food defense, food fraud prevention, food safety culture, and food safety management, aiming to prevent intentional or deliberate food safety incidents at HACCP-certified facilities.

The evaluation criteria consist of a total of 152 items: the existing 80 mandatory HACCP items, plus 72 additional items reflecting the latest guidelines from the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CODEX) and certification standards from the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). As of the end of last year, 54 items across 13 locations nationwide had completed Global HACCP registration. The Daesang starch factory obtained Global HACCP certification in two sectors: food and health functional foods.

Daesang determined that a food safety management system in line with international standards is essential for securing competitiveness and expanding exports in the global market, and proactively pursued Global HACCP certification. The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety plans to form and operate a 'public-private task force' to ensure that Global HACCP is recognized as equivalent to international certification systems such as GFSI, and to implement various policies such as holding briefing sessions for embassies in major export markets and APRAS member countries. These efforts are expected to have a positive impact on Daesang's global expansion.

The Daesang starch factory, which produces a total of 11 types of food products including starch, processed starch products, starch syrup, and processed sweeteners (allulose), became the first in the starch and syrup industry to receive Global HACCP certification. Additionally, as a facility producing indigestible maltodextrin (Fibersol-2, Fibersol-2L), it also became the first in the health functional food sector to obtain Global HACCP certification.

Lim Jeongbae, CEO of Daesang, stated, "As the global popularity of K-Food continues, the demand for food safety standards is also increasing. We will strive to provide safe food that both domestic and international consumers can trust through even more thorough management."
