Mayor Oh greeted residents in a friendly tone, saying, "Just crossing the boundary into Mapo District makes me tense because of the Mapo Resource Recovery Facility, but the warm applause and affection from Mapo residents have put me at ease." He also expressed his regret regarding the facility, stating, "Although we have announced that we will select the most suitable site through due process, I always feel sorry toward the residents of Mapo District."

Mayor Oh emphasized, "We will devise a solution regarding the Mapo Resource Recovery Facility to ensure that Mapo residents do not suffer any disadvantages," and added, "We will work together with Mapo District to resolve this issue wisely."

Mayor Oh also delivered New Year's greetings and outlined the direction of city administration, expressing his commitment to close cooperation and communication with Mapo District. Afterwards, Mapo District shared its views on pending issues that require collaboration with the Seoul Metropolitan Government, and Mayor Oh expressed his intention to actively cooperate on these matters.

In his New Year's address, Kangsoo Park, Mayor of Mapo District, said, "An hour of the mayor's time is like gathering an hour from each of the 360,000 residents of Mapo District," adding, "I have worked in the field with the mindset of not wasting a single moment."

Mayor Park highlighted the recent return of the Mapo Retarding Basin site, previously used by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, to Mapo District, thanked Mayor Oh for his active cooperation, and expressed hope for continued collaboration in the future.

The Mapo Resource Recovery Facility is a waste incineration plant that the Seoul Metropolitan Government is planning to build in Sangam-dong, Mapo District. In 2023, the city selected a site in Sangam-dong, adjacent to the current Mapo Resource Recovery Facility, as the final location for the new metropolitan resource recovery facility. In response, Mapo District and local residents have strongly opposed the plan, arguing that it amounts to building another large-scale incinerator next to the existing one.
