The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on January 7 (local time) that Anthropic, the developer of the artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot Claude, has secured an investment of 10 billion dollars (approximately 14.491 trillion won), raising its corporate valuation to 350 billion dollars.
Anthropic had previously raised 13 billion dollars in funding in September of last year, with a corporate valuation of 183 billion dollars at that time. This means the company’s valuation has nearly doubled in just four months.
According to sources, Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund GIC and Coatue Management are expected to lead this round of funding. Bloomberg News also reported that Microsoft and Nvidia are anticipated to participate in this investment round. The deal is expected to be finalized within the next few weeks, although the total investment amount may fluctuate.
WSJ assessed that Anthropic’s latest fundraising signals another boom in AI startup investments. According to market research firm PitchBook, AI startups are estimated to have attracted a record 222 billion dollars in investment in 2025, more than double the amount in 2024.
Based on these high expectations for AI startups, initial public offerings (IPOs) are also expected to become more active this year. Anthropic and SpaceX, the space company led by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, are both expected to go public in 2026.
WSJ projected that Anthropic will reach breakeven in 2028, which would be a faster turnaround to profitability than OpenAI.
Meanwhile, OpenAI is currently valued at 750 billion dollars and is seeking to raise up to 100 billion dollars in funding.
