Prevention of Overnight Parking Outside Designated Lots
Alleviating Citizen Inconvenience Expected
Construction to Begin in First Half of the Year
176 Parking Spaces and Management Building to Be Established
The Wonju City public cargo truck parking lot development project gained momentum after the official announcement of the implementation plan on January 2.
This project is being promoted to prevent overnight parking of cargo trucks outside designated parking lots and to alleviate inconvenience for citizens.
The public parking lot is planned to be built in the area of 1581-2, Heungeop-ri, Heungeop-myeon, adjacent to Dongbu Sunhwan-ro, Heungeop Intersection, and Namwonju Interchange (IC). A total of 15.7 billion KRW from provincial and municipal funds will be invested to create a 20,146-square-meter site with 176 parking spaces (132 for cargo trucks and 44 for general vehicles), as well as one management building for facility operation and user convenience.
To date, the city has completed major administrative procedures such as a feasibility study, local financial investment review, urban management plan (modification), and small-scale disaster and environmental impact assessments. In May last year, the city opened and announced the compensation plan for land acquisition and has been conducting compensation negotiations. Following the completion of the project approval notice, the city plans to promptly proceed with the expropriation process for land parcels where agreements have not been reached and to secure the necessary budget, aiming to begin construction in the first half of this year.
Meanwhile, Wonju City plans to create a temporary parking lot, which involves relatively simple administrative procedures and a short construction period, to be used until the completion of the public cargo truck parking lot. The temporary parking lot will utilize idle national and public land and will have approximately 300 spaces.
This approach is expected to compensate for the time constraints until the public parking lot is completed and to help resolve the chronic shortage of cargo truck parking by securing sufficient parking space.
Won Kangsu, Mayor of Wonju City, stated, "We will focus our administrative efforts to ensure the swift progress of the public cargo truck parking lot project."
