Initiation of Service Contracts for Neighborhood-Scale Redevelopment Planning
Targeting Maintenance Zone Designation by the First Half of 2027
Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor: Shin Sangjin) announced on January 8 that it will officially launch redevelopment projects for the Taepyeong District 1 and Bank 1·Geumgwang District 2 areas. Last month, in accordance with the revised "2030 Seongnam City Urban and Residential Environment Improvement Master Plan," the city began service contracts to establish maintenance plans and designate maintenance zones for these two areas, which were selected as candidates for neighborhood-scale redevelopment projects.
The service contracts cover 73,269 square meters in Taepyeong District 1 and 117,999 square meters in Bank 1·Geumgwang District 2. These areas are densely populated with aging residential buildings, and there have been ongoing demands for improvements to the residential environment. Seongnam City plans to enhance living conditions and create tangible changes in the urban environment that citizens can experience in their daily lives through systematic, neighborhood-based redevelopment.
The maintenance plans will include land use planning, urban planning facilities, strategies for expanding community infrastructure, plans for buildings, transportation improvement measures, environmental conservation and disaster prevention, and protection of the educational environment. Seongnam City intends to conduct a comprehensive analysis covering land and buildings, infrastructure such as roads and parks, as well as population structure, living conditions, and social, economic, and cultural characteristics. After gathering feedback from local residents and consulting with experts, the city will establish customized maintenance plans for each area.
The city aims to complete both the maintenance planning and the designation of maintenance zones for Taepyeong District 1 and Bank 1·Geumgwang District 2 by the first half of 2027, and then proceed with redevelopment projects in phases. Through these efforts, Seongnam City seeks to improve the residential environment of aging neighborhoods while simultaneously enhancing local living conditions and urban functions.
