President Lee Jaemyung, upon concluding his state visit to China on January 7, stated, "Someday, the abnormal state of chaos and hostility on the Korean Peninsula will be overcome, and a day will come when we respect each other and achieve peaceful coexistence and mutual prosperity." He added, "Meet, Porjaemyung and Porjeongeun."
On the evening of the same day, President Lee posted this message on his X account (formerly Twitter), adding, "I hope the North also receives many blessings in the New Year."
President Lee also introduced an op-ed titled "Meet, Porjaemyung and Porjeongeun," which uses the inter-Korean joint animation "Pororo the Little Penguin" as a motif to express his hope for a meeting between himself and Kim Jong Un, Chairman of North Korea's State Affairs Commission.
During a press conference held in Shanghai, China, on the same day, President Lee emphasized the need for international cooperation to achieve peace on the Korean Peninsula.
He also revealed that, during his summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping, he requested that China play a mediating role, and that President Xi responded by saying he would "make an effort."
