"Anything You Want, Donald"... Trump Mocks Macron Again

U.S. President Donald Trump once again mocked French President Emmanuel Macron by bringing up their previous conversation about drug prices and tariffs.

"Anything You Want, Donald"... Trump Mocks Macron Again

On the 6th (local time), during a speech at the Federal House Republican retreat held at the Trump-Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., President Trump claimed that he pressured President Macron to raise drug prices last year.

President Trump revealed that, in a past phone call, he told President Macron, "If you don't accept everything we demand, I will impose a 25% tariff on all products coming from France." Trump then imitated Macron’s pleading voice, saying that Macron protested, "No, no, no, you can't do that."

Trump asserted that when he responded, "I can. And I will," President Macron quickly gave in to his demands.

Trump continued to mimic President Macron, claiming that Macron pleaded, "Deal’s done, Donald. Raise my prescription drug prices by 200% or whatever you want. It would be an honor. Anything you want, Donald. But please, just don’t tell the people."

Trump then returned to a serious tone and said, "Every country said the same thing."

This is not the first time President Trump has disclosed conversations about drug prices between the two leaders.

He stated that in December of last year, he had also warned President Macron, "If you don’t double or triple the price of pharmaceuticals, I will impose a 25% tariff on all products." Trump added that after a long silence on the other end of the line, Macron replied, "Understood."

However, in response to Trump’s claims, an official from the ?lys?e Palace told the daily Le Figaro at the time, "That makes no sense at all."

The official added, "If you go to a pharmacy, as millions of French people do every day, you will see that drug prices have remained generally stable in recent months," and noted that the head of state does not set drug prices.

In fact, since the tariff negotiations last year, there have been no presidential announcements or decisions regarding pharmaceutical prices in France.
