Ahead of the National Stage for Freshmen and Sophomores
Jointly Designing "Operations and Safety" with the Korea University Football Federation
Kimcheon City in North Gyeongsang Province is actively supporting the growth of promising university football players within the region, further establishing itself as a sports-oriented city.
On January 6, Kimcheon City signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Korea University Football Federation at City Hall for the successful hosting of the 22nd University Freshman and Sophomore Football Tournament.
This agreement goes beyond simply attracting the tournament; it is significant in that it establishes a cooperative framework to systematically ensure the stability of match operations and on-site safety. Under this agreement, both organizations will jointly manage all aspects of match operations and safety management throughout the tournament period.
In particular, the city plans to provide seamless support across all administrative and facility areas, including stadium operations, traffic flow management, accommodation inspections, and on-site safety measures, so that players and officials can focus solely on the tournament.
Kimcheon City aims to enhance the overall quality of the tournament by leveraging its accumulated experience in hosting nationwide sports events.
This tournament is organized by the Korea University Football Federation and co-hosted by the Korea University Football Federation and the Kimcheon City Football Association.
The tournament will be held in Kimcheon from January 7 to 22, spanning 16 days, with approximately 1,200 athletes from 36 university teams across the country participating, showcasing the present and future of university football.
Kimcheon City intends to further solidify its status as a city with robust sports infrastructure through this tournament. With nationwide teams staying in the region for an extended period, positive ripple effects are expected across the local economy, including the accommodation and food service sectors.
A city official stated, "It is meaningful that players who will lead the future of university football are competing in Kimcheon. We will spare no administrative support to ensure the tournament concludes safely and successfully."
This agreement is more than just preparation for a sports event. It is significant in that Kimcheon City is directly participating in the development stages of university sports, meticulously designing a structure that links tournament hosting, stable operations, extended local stays, and economic revitalization. The next generation of campus football is gaining experience in Kimcheon, and the city is securing new competitiveness through sports.
