Uiseong County Launches 2026 New Year Practical Education for Farmers
Boosting "On-Site Competitiveness" for 3,000 Local Farms
Uiseong County is actively implementing the "2026 New Year Practical Education for Farmers" to proactively respond to changes in the agricultural environment caused by climate change. With the goal of shifting from experience-based farming to technology and data-driven agriculture, the program focuses on practical education that can be immediately applied in the field.
According to Uiseong County, the program will run until the 22nd, offering a total of eight courses over 13 sessions, with approximately 3,000 farms eligible to participate.
The program provides the latest cultivation techniques and policy information to help farmers preparing for the new year’s farming season develop crop plans that reflect the characteristics of each crop and climate-related risks.
Since the program began in December last year, 1,738 participants-mainly apple, plum, and peach growers-have attended, marking a high participation rate. The lectures have been particularly well-received because they address real issues experienced in the field, such as unstable crop growth and increased pests and diseases due to climate change, offering practical assistance to farmers.
The curriculum covers topics such as changes in cultivation environments and response strategies due to climate change, field-specific cultivation techniques tailored to each crop, and information on major agricultural policies and support programs. The distinguishing feature of this program is its emphasis on action-oriented education that farmers can immediately put into practice, rather than simply delivering theoretical knowledge.
Uiseong County plans to continue providing customized education for key crops such as garlic, chili peppers, rice, and eggplants, aiming to enhance both the technological competitiveness of each crop and the income stability of local farms.
Kim Jusu, Governor of Uiseong County, stated, "The New Year Practical Education for Farmers serves as the starting line that determines the direction of farming for the year. In an era where the climate crisis has become the norm, we will continue to strengthen education that farmers can truly benefit from in the field, so they can respond with confidence."
In today’s agricultural landscape, where climate change is no longer a variable but a given, Uiseong County’s New Year Practical Education for Farmers is seen as a strategic choice to help local agriculture move beyond survival and toward greater competitiveness.
