Implementing Sustainable Management Across All Sectors
Advancing Transparent and Responsible ESG Management
Busan Urban Corporation (BMC), led by President Shin Changho, announced on January 7, 2026, that it will strengthen its social responsibility as a public institution and elevate its level of sustainable management in the new year.
Since first establishing its ESG management strategy in 2022, BMC has been identifying and implementing detailed ESG management tasks annually across the areas of Environment (E), Social (S), and Governance (G) in order to embed sustainable management throughout the organization. Key achievements include pursuing Zero Energy Building certification, operating the BMC-style residential welfare social contribution program 'Residential Welfare ON,' and discovering new public data. The corporation systematically manages these initiatives by reviewing their performance on a quarterly basis.
As part of its efforts to spread ESG management throughout the local community, BMC established the first-ever construction and public corporation ESG council in 2024. Through this council, BMC has collaborated with civic groups to carry out a variety of joint initiatives with the community, such as plogging activities at Igidae and Songjeong beaches, campaigns to promote public transportation usage, and participation in plastic reduction seminars.
In addition, BMC is participating in the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) to adapt international standards to the characteristics of the public sector. By attending ESG seminars for public institutions and operating mentoring programs, BMC shares key issues related to ESG implementation and continues to strengthen inter-institutional collaboration.
Furthermore, to transparently disclose its various ESG management achievements to stakeholders, BMC published its first-ever sustainability report in 2024 and is working to issue the report on a regular basis. Based on these efforts, the corporation received the Gold Award at the 2024 LACP Spotlight Awards in the United States, the Organizing Committee Chairperson's Award at the Korea ESG Awards, and in 2025, the Grand Prize in the K-ESG Evaluation category at the Korea Public ESG Management Awards.
Notably, the K-ESG Evaluation category at the Korea Public ESG Management Awards evaluated over 300 institutions, including public enterprises, quasi-governmental organizations, and local public corporations. Among these, BMC was selected as one of 18 leading institutions in ESG management, thereby securing external trust.
Shin Changho, President of Busan Urban Corporation, stated, "Since establishing our ESG management strategy in 2022, we have diligently carried out various ESG initiatives every year and promoted company-wide ESG management. In 2026, we will establish an even more advanced ESG management plan to ensure more transparent and responsible management going forward."
