Busan Port Authority Signs Agreement with Korea Conformity Laboratories
Accelerating Commercialization Through Cooperation on Smart Port Technology Standards and Certifications
Busan Port Authority has embarked on building a smart port and launching technology demonstration projects. The initiative aims to accelerate the commercialization of technologies through cooperation on smart port technology standards and certifications.
On January 7, Busan Port Authority (President Song Sangkeun) announced that it had signed a "business agreement for the construction of a smart port and demonstration of new technologies in port logistics" with Korea Conformity Laboratories (KCL) at the Busan Port Authority headquarters.
The agreement aims to ensure the field applicability and reliability of new technologies in port logistics. It includes detailed cooperation in several areas: establishing a standardization and certification roadmap to address policies, standards, and certification systems for smart port technologies; conducting demonstrations of energy efficiency technologies for major facilities at Busan Port; and jointly planning national research and development and public projects to promote smart port logistics.
Busan Port Authority will provide demonstration infrastructure, such as operational sites, to verify the practicality and applicability of the technologies. KCL plans to support the verification of technology performance and ensure reliability based on its expertise in testing, evaluation, and certification, gradually expanding the commercialization potential of port logistics technologies.
In addition, the two organizations will use this agreement as an opportunity to cooperate on energy transition and the adoption of smart technologies in the port logistics sector. They also plan to collaborate on establishing related policies and improving systems based on the results of the demonstrations.
Song Sangkeun, President of Busan Port Authority, stated, "This agreement is an important milestone in jointly establishing both the technological demonstration and institutional foundation for transforming Busan Port into a smart and eco-friendly port. Through field-oriented demonstrations and the integration of standards and certifications, we will enhance the overall competitiveness of the port logistics industry."
