On January 6, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that Lin Ling (25), a beauty influencer from Bijie County, Guizhou Province, China, recently faced these suspicions.

According to the outlet, Lin was diagnosed with jaundice shortly after birth but did not receive proper treatment, and around the age of one, she was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. She experienced difficulties in social interactions due to her disability from a young age and began developing an interest in makeup.

Self-Taught Makeup Skills... Rising to 800,000 Followers

She taught herself how to apply makeup and filmed the process of completing her looks over several hours, despite physical limitations such as hand tremors. She received help from acquaintances with filming and editing.

Lin's videos gradually gained attention, and she now has over 800,000 followers on social media. She has expanded her activities through live commerce and advertising contracts, and it has been reported that she repaid her family's debt, which amounted to about 400,000 yuan (approximately 83 million won).

Releasing Certificate in Response to "Faking Disability" Accusations

However, some internet users raised suspicions, saying, "This is a level of makeup that someone with cerebral palsy could not achieve," "She is using her disability narrative to gain attention and profit," "She is pretending to be disabled to make money," and "It is manipulation to attract attention."

As the controversy grew, Lin publicly released her disability certificate and directly addressed the accusations. She stated, "I have difficulty moving, but there are no problems with my intelligence," and added, "If it is something ordinary people can do, I can do it too, although it just takes me more time." She also said, "I started this work because I wanted to lessen the burden on my family."

After her explanation, messages of support have continued to pour in on Lin's social media. Last October, she opened her own beauty salon and announced plans to expand her business further to continue supporting her family.
