"I Will Do My Utmost to Support"
Seoul Mayor Oh Sehoon stated on January 7 that he "welcomes Representative Jang Donghyuk's declaration of reform" regarding Jang's announcement of renewal measures for the People Power Party.
On this day, Mayor Oh wrote on Facebook, "I strongly welcome the party leader's declaration to decisively break away from past mistakes and to initiate changes that meet the expectations of the public."
Mayor Oh further emphasized, "I believe the public will also agree with this decision, which has gravely accepted the urgent calls for change voiced by the people and supporters."
Earlier that day, Representative Jang held a press conference at the party headquarters in Yeouido, where he stated, "The December 3 Martial Law was an inappropriate and misguided measure for the situation," adding, "As the ruling party, which was a key pillar of state administration, we bear significant responsibility for failing to fulfill our role." Mayor Oh has consistently maintained the position that the People Power Party should apologize for the martial law declaration.
Mayor Oh added, "I hope that the change the public has been waiting for does not remain merely a declaration, but will be genuinely reflected and implemented in the party's operations and the overall political landscape going forward. I will also do my utmost to support the party so that it can once again become a trusted political force through changes that are tangible to the public."
