Election Fraud Allegations and Social Controversy Resurface

As Lee Junseok, leader of the Reform New Party, announced his willingness to hold a public debate with a YouTuber who claims election fraud, the controversy is spreading both in political circles and online. On January 6, Lee wrote on his social media, "For several months, I have been receiving debate requests via Instagram DM," adding, "Given that this person graduated from Seoul National University’s Department of Physics and has experience working at a semiconductor company, it doesn’t seem like a joke."

A YouTuber with approximately 260,000 subscribers uploaded a video titled "Representative Lee Junseok, I Request a Debate on Election Fraud," featuring a thumbnail with the phrase "100 Million Ready!"

In response, Lee said, "The thought of buying books for children at the Dongtan library in my constituency if I receive 100 million won excites me," adding, "Even if it’s not this person, I welcome a debate with anyone who supports election fraud claims." However, Lee set some conditions. He stated, "The debate must be held with faces revealed, and to prevent pranks, there is no need to give me money," adding, "Instead, if you donate at least 10 million won to a place I approve, that will suffice." In another social media post, Lee wrote, "Please share this widely so I don’t go back on my word," and described it as "a golden opportunity to take down Lee Junseok, the so-called leftist, pro-China, and spy."

In response to Lee’s comments, the YouTuber pinned a comment on a follow-up video, clarifying, "I never said I would give 100 million won just for debating; I said I would donate if I successfully refute him." He added, "If Representative Lee Junseok refutes me, I will donate 100 million won to Dongtan," and, "If I am wrong, I will donate 100 million won, apologize, and take both moral and legal responsibility."

Lee Junseok has consistently criticized election fraud claims. In the past, he has repeatedly proposed public debates to verify the facts, calling such claims "baseless conspiracy theories." He has argued that allegations of election fraud undermine trust in the electoral system and democracy itself.

The election fraud theory has spread mainly among certain political groups, online communities, and YouTube channels. Concerns have repeatedly been raised about possible manipulation during the voting and counting process, suspicions about electronic ballot counters, and issues with early voting management. However, the National Election Commission and the judiciary have maintained that there is no objective evidence to support these claims. No court ruling has recognized the existence of organized election fraud. Within political circles, opinions are divided over this controversy: some say that, despite the provocative tone and methods, the attempt to verify conspiracy theories through public debate is meaningful, while others argue that such sensational approaches only fuel further controversy.
