The Blue House announced that President Lee Jaemyung and Chinese President Xi Jinping discussed the issue of structures in the West Sea during their summit meeting.
On January 7 (local time), Blue House spokesperson Kang Yujeong stated, "I would like to provide further clarification regarding the structures in the West Sea," adding, "Upon confirmation, President Lee and President Xi discussed the issue of the West Sea structures both in Gyeongju previously and in Beijing this time, and President Xi was fully aware of the matter."
She continued, "In general, summit meetings focus on broad, overall directions, so President Xi did not comment on every detail. Based on the consensus reached on the broader framework, it was agreed to continue constructive discussions at the working level. We hope these talks will proceed smoothly and lead to progress."
Previously, during a briefing the day before, spokesperson Kang had said, "It seemed that President Xi was not fully aware of the West Sea structures," and explained, "Our position is that the West Sea should become a sea of joint prosperity for the development of Korea-China relations, and there was consensus on this point, leading to an agreement to discuss the matter at the working level."
