Appointed on January 1
The National Gimhae Museum announced on January 7 that Lee Yangsu assumed the position of director as of January 1.
Director Lee graduated from the Department of Archaeology at Pusan National University and earned both his master's and doctoral degrees in archaeology from the same graduate school. His area of expertise is the Bronze Age, with a particular focus on bronze mirrors.
He began his career in 2002 at the Archaeology Department of the National Museum of Korea, and has since worked in the Museum Policy Division of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, as well as in the Planning and Coordination Division, Archaeology and History Division, and Exhibition Division of the National Museum of Korea. He later served as Head of the Research Division at both the National Gimhae Museum and the National Jinju Museum, and most recently, as Director of the National Cheongju Museum.
In his inauguration remarks, Director Lee stated, "I want to further promote the National Gimhae Museum to the world, and also introduce international examples such as the ancient Greek polis, which shares similarities with Gaya, to the public."
