Attends Venture & Startup Summit to Engage with Young Entrepreneurs from Korea and China
Visits Provisional Government Building in Shanghai to Commemorate Shared Korea-China Historical Experience
Concludes State Visit to China and Returns Home on the Afternoon of the 7th
President Lee Jaemyung, who is on a state visit to China, will complete his final schedule in Shanghai on January 7 (local time).
In the morning, President Lee will attend the Korea-China Venture & Startup Summit held in Shanghai, where he will engage with young entrepreneurs from both countries who are leading innovation in fields such as content, healthcare, infrastructure, and energy through digital technology. He will explore ways to make the venture and startup sector a new pillar of future-oriented cooperation between Korea and China.
This event, themed "Korea-China Startup Ecosystem: From Connection to Joint Growth," brings together about 400 participants, including high-level government officials from both countries, promising startups, and venture capital representatives. The program includes "Dialogue with Korea-China Venture Startups," the "Korea-China Investment Conference," and the "Korea-China Business Meetup." There will also be an exhibition of products and technologies from outstanding Korean startups seeking to enter the Chinese market.
The "Dialogue with Korea-China Venture Startups" will focus on two themes: "connection" within the Korea-China startup ecosystem and "growth" achieved through such connections. Key venture startup figures from both countries will participate. On the Chinese side, attendees include Han Biqing, CEO of BrainCo; Yan Junjie, CEO of Minimax; and Huo Jianjun, CEO of CMBI. On the Korean side, participants include Seo Bumseok, CEO of Lunit; Ahn Junghyun, CEO of CNS; and Choi Hongseok, CEO of MaumAI. CMBI is a financial services institution engaged in asset management and investment banking as a subsidiary of China Merchants Bank, the largest commercial bank in China.
As the final official event of his state visit, President Lee will also visit the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea building in Shanghai. Following the 80th anniversary of Liberation in 2025, 2026 will mark the 150th anniversary of Kim Gu's birth and the 100th anniversary of the Shanghai Provisional Government building. The visit is intended to honor the sacrifices and dedication of independence activists and to commemorate the shared historical experience of Korea and China working together to restore national sovereignty.
With the visit to the Provisional Government building, President Lee will conclude his four-day, three-night state visit to China and return home. During the visit, President Lee met with all of China's top three leaders-President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, and Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress-to discuss a wide range of topics, including expanding economic cooperation and peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.
In addition, the Korea-China Business Forum was held for the first time in nine years, with major business leaders from both countries in attendance. The forum sought to create new areas of economic cooperation based on the complementary strengths of the manufacturing, consumer goods, and service sectors in both countries. Immediately following the summit, signing ceremonies were held for 14 memorandums of understanding (MOUs) between government ministries and agencies of the two countries, as well as for the "Certificate of Donation of a Pair of Qing Dynasty Stone Lions." The two countries signed a range of MOUs, including one establishing a regular Korea-China Ministerial Meeting on Commerce ("MOU on the Establishment of a Dialogue for Commercial Cooperation") and another to strengthen cooperation and investment between industrial complexes and solidify collaboration in industrial and supply chains ("MOU on Strengthening Industrial Complex Cooperation").
