Return of the Author of "Horizon" and "The Boxer"
Exploring Human Birth, Fate, and Death
Author Jung Jihoon, recognized by Europe's largest comic festival, has returned after three years.
Kakao Entertainment announced on January 7 that it had released Jung's new webtoon, "Yuje (有臍)," exclusively on KakaoPage and Kakao Webtoon on December 30.
This is his first work since completing the global hit "The Boxer." The title "Yuje" means "to have a navel." It symbolizes both the trace of being one with one's mother and the human destiny of inevitably moving toward death from the moment of birth.
The story follows one girl who tries to cut herself off from the world and another who affirms the meaning of life. Through these two contrasting characters, the author explores the theme of human existence in the form of a suspense thriller. The work's bold portrayal of profound themes earned it a "19 and over" rating.
Jung Jihoon is regarded as a storyteller who transcends genres. With his previous work "Horizon," he gained international acclaim by winning the "Yellow Kid Book of the Year" at Italy's "Lucca Comics & Games" in November last year.
Jung commented, "This work is the result of a long and intense contemplation on existence and the meaning of being human," adding, "I hope it becomes a journey to find the answers together with readers." The webtoon will be serialized every Tuesday.
