"Rectangle, Triangle" to Be Released on January 21
Invited to Jeonju International Film Festival... Starring Jin Seonkyu and Oh Euisik
Actor Lee Heejoon has set aside acting for a while to take on the challenge of directing. The film "Rectangle, Triangle," which he wrote and directed himself, will be released to audiences on January 21.
This is his second directorial work following the short film "Byeonghun's Day" (2018). The movie depicts how a family gathering spirals into an unpredictable catastrophe due to long-standing conflicts. It was recognized for its artistic merit when it was officially invited to the Jeonju International Film Festival last year.
The central theme is the "lack of communication." The poster's tagline, "Let's talk, we're family after all!" suggests that family relationships, often believed to be the closest, can actually be the most disconnected, forming a "wall of miscommunication." Director Lee captures moments when everyday conversations escalate into shouting matches and minor misunderstandings turn into major rifts, all through a black comedy approach. The film starts with laughter and ends with a chilling aftertaste, making it a so-called "uproarious comedy of a family that cannot communicate."
The casting focused on maximizing realism. Seasoned actors with proven acting skills, such as Jin Seonkyu, Oh Euisik, Oh Yong, and Kwon Sohyun, joined the project. The film presents the raw, unfiltered clashes within the family.
