Gyeonggi Province will hold a National Assembly forum on January 9 in the Second Small Conference Room of the National Assembly Members' Office Building to discuss practical strategies for implementing the projects included in the '2nd Gyeonggi Province Urban Railway Network Construction Plan (2026-2035)'.

The National Assembly forum, under the theme 'Our Neighborhood Urban Railway Is Just Beginning!', will feature a comprehensive discussion centered on the 12 lines included in the 2nd Gyeonggi Province Urban Railway Network Construction Plan.


Approximately 100 participants are expected to attend the forum, including Governor Kim Dongyeon, members of the National Assembly representing relevant cities and counties, professionals from railway-related organizations, academic and research experts, and local residents.


In particular, 25 members of the National Assembly-Kim Sungwon, Kim Seonghoe, Kim Seungwon, Kim Youngjin, Kim Younghwan, Kim Eunhye, Kim Jooyoung, Kim Junhyuk, Kim Taenyon, Moon Jeongbok, Park Sanghyuk, Paek Hyeryeon, Boo Seungchan, So Byunghoon, Son Myungsoo, Ahn Cheolsoo, Ahn Taejun, Yeom Taeyoung, Lee Kiheon, Lee Sangsik, Lee Sujin, Lee Eonju, Jung Sungho, Cho Jungshik, and Han Junho (in alphabetical order)-will participate as joint hosts, which is expected to help devise practical strategies for advancing urban railway projects in Gyeonggi Province.


At the forum, Park Kyungcheol, Vice President of the Gyeonggi Research Institute, who led the 'Study on Establishing the 2nd Gyeonggi Province Urban Railway Network Construction Plan', will deliver the keynote presentation. He will examine the significance of the plan, major issues in the approval process by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and propose strategies to enhance the plan's feasibility.


This will be followed by a comprehensive panel discussion moderated by Vice President Park. Panelists include Ko Taeho, Director of Railway Policy at Gyeonggi Province; Kwon Jaewook, Director of Railways at Gimpo City; Kim Sura, Director of Smart Transportation at Gwangju City; Kim Jihyun, Director of Transportation at Yangju City; Kim Sookhee, Senior Research Fellow at Suwon City Research Institute; Hong Kiman, Head of Spatial Environment Research at Yongin City Research Institute; Choi Jinheon, Research Fellow at Seongnam City Research Institute; Baek Juhyun, Director of Urban Environment Research at Goyang Research Institute; and Lee Sangjun, Research Fellow at Siheung City Research Institute.


Choo Daeun, Director of the Railway, Port and Logistics Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Through the 2nd Gyeonggi Province Urban Railway Network Construction Plan, railways will become a part of residents' daily transportation, and the region will transition to a railway-centered transportation system. Based on this forum, we will foster consensus among the National Assembly, the province, cities and counties, and experts, and actively support the seamless implementation of urban railway projects that residents can truly feel."


Meanwhile, the 2nd Gyeonggi Province Urban Railway Network Construction Plan is a legally mandated 10-year mid-term plan covering 2026 to 2035, aiming to establish or extend 12 urban railway lines throughout Gyeonggi Province. The plan was developed by Gyeonggi Province and received approval from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on December 12 of last year. The 12-line plan includes six lines not pursued in the first phase (2016-2025) and six newly added lines. The total length of the 12 lines is 104.48 kilometers, with a total project cost of approximately 7.2 trillion won. The lines include the Wolgot-Baegot Line, Yongin Line Extension, Suwon Urban Railway Line 1, Moran-Pangyo Line, Seongnam Urban Railway Line 1, Seongnam Urban Railway Line 2, Gimpo Gold Line Hagun Extension, Pangyo-Opo Line, Dongbaek-Sinbong Line, Gajwa-Siksa Line, Daegok-Goyang City Hall-Siksa Line, and Deokjeong-Okjeong Line.
