Southern Wildfire Response Hub to Begin in Hamyang

Attracting the Southern Regional Wildfire Prevention Center

Hamyang County, Gyeongsangnam-do announced that it has successfully attracted the Southern Regional Wildfire Prevention Center, a national agency overseeing wildfire response in the southern region, to the site of the closed Bongjeon Branch of Seohacho Elementary School, located at 62 Bongjeon-gil, Seoha-myeon.

The Southern Regional Wildfire Prevention Center serves as a comprehensive wildfire countermeasure headquarters jointly operated by relevant ministries. It is a key national institution responsible for wildfire prevention, response, and situation management in major southern regions such as Gyeongsangnam-do, Busan Metropolitan City, and Ulsan Metropolitan City.

This achievement is seen as a turning point for Hamyang County, positioning it as an important strategic base within the national wildfire response system.

The Bongjeon Branch of Seohacho Elementary School, where the center will be established, is highly regarded as a location for a national agency due to its advantageous geographical conditions that allow easy connection to major forest areas in the southern region, and the ability to utilize existing school facilities for rapid construction and efficient operation.

Through its plan to build the center on this site, Hamyang County has secured both administrative stability and effectiveness, aiming to establish a base optimized for wildfire response.

This accomplishment is the result of Hamyang County's long-standing efforts to build wildfire disaster response capabilities, as well as the outcome of organic cooperation among all departments of the county. Given the region's high proportion of forest area, Hamyang County has made wildfire prevention and response a key administrative priority, continuously strengthening related infrastructure and personnel.

In particular, the comprehensive presentation of its strategic location as a national wildfire response base, administrative support system, and field response experience, along with ongoing consultations with relevant ministries, played a major role in the successful attraction of the center.

Attracting the Southern Regional Wildfire Prevention Center is a meaningful achievement that expands Hamyang County's role from simply being a forested area to serving as a core pillar of the national wildfire response system. The center is expected to function as a key hub connecting the central government and local governments in future wildfire response efforts.

An official from Hamyang County stated, "The attraction of the Southern Regional Wildfire Prevention Center is a recognition by the nation of Hamyang County's forest management and administrative capabilities," adding, "We will spare no administrative support to ensure the stable operation of the center."

Hamyang County plans to further strengthen cooperation with the central government and metropolitan municipalities, taking a proactive approach to wildfire prevention and response, and solidifying its status as a key base responsible for national forest safety.
