The district stated that on January 6, it held two rounds of scholarship certificate award ceremonies to express its support for local talent, including children of residents who have contributed to the community’s development.
Since the enactment of the “Ordinance on the Establishment and Management of the Jungnang District Scholarship Fund” in 2008, Jungnang District has steadily expanded its fund, now operating the largest scholarship fund among Seoul’s autonomous districts, with about 10.4 billion won. From 2008 to the present, the district has provided approximately 7.35 billion won in scholarships to a total of 8,405 students.
Ryu Kyunggi, Mayor of Jungnang District, stated, “The Jungnang Scholarship embodies the aspirations of our 400,000 residents and is a precious asset supporting the dreams of our students. We will continue to reduce the burden of educational expenses and build ‘Jungnang, the City of Education,’ where everyone has the opportunity to learn.”
Jungnang District is also focusing on expanding educational infrastructure alongside its scholarship programs. As the first autonomous district in Seoul to operate two educational support centers, it provides tailored educational services and is also pursuing the construction of an astronomical science center to foster scientific talent. This year, the district allocated 16 billion won for school education expenses, the third largest among Seoul’s autonomous districts.
