Police Search Home of Song Kwangseok, Key Unification Church Figure and Former UPF President

The police have conducted a search and seizure at the residence of Song Kwangseok, former president of the Universal Peace Federation (UPF), in connection with allegations of political lobbying by the Unification Church.

The Special Investigation Task Force of the National Office of Investigation at the National Police Agency sent investigators to Song's residence on January 2 and secured materials related to the lobbying allegations.

Previously, on December 31, Song was indicted on charges of illegally donating 13 million won from a Unification Church-affiliated organization to the fundraising committees of 11 members of the National Assembly around 2019.

The prosecution has requested supplementary investigation from the police, stating that further inquiry is needed into three accomplices who were referred as co-conspirators: President Hak Ja Han, former Secretary-General Yoon Youngho, and former Chief of Staff Jung Wonjoo.
