23 Billion Won Invested to Prevent Flooding in Residential and Farmland Areas
Jangsu County in Jeonbuk has received the Encouragement Award in the “2025 Outstanding Small Stream Maintenance Project Case Competition” organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
According to Jangsu County on January 6, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety evaluated all cities, counties, and districts nationwide, comprehensively reviewing flood prevention effectiveness, harmony with the natural environment, and reflection of regional characteristics. Jangsu County was selected as an outstanding institution after a three-stage process: a first-round document review, a second-round on-site inspection, and a third-round final evaluation, and will be awarded a commendation from the Minister of the Interior and Safety.
Jangsu County participated in the competition with the theme “Rural-Type Sucheok Small Stream Maintenance Project Passing Through Upper and Middle Residential Areas and Downstream Farmland.” From 2021 to 2023, the county invested a total of 2.3 billion won over three years to carry out environmental improvement projects for a 0.765 km section, including embankment maintenance for flood prevention, as well as the installation of bridges and pedestrian crossings.
According to county officials, Jangsu County was highly praised for its outstanding efforts to build disaster prevention facilities tailored to the county’s unique steep valley topography and to improve residents’ living conditions.
Bin Jungbae, Head of the Safety and Disaster Department, stated, “This award is the result of collaboration between the administration and residents, recognizing our efforts to create safer streams. We will continue to actively promote small stream maintenance projects to protect residents from disasters and to improve their quality of life.”
