At around 10:18 a.m. on January 6, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 occurred 23 km southeast of Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture, in western Honshu, Japan.


According to the Korea Meteorological Administration and the Gyeongnam and Changwon Fire Headquarters, the earthquake was centered at a latitude of 35.30 degrees and a longitude of 133.20 degrees, with a depth of 10 km.


The seismic intensity was measured at a maximum of II (2) in Gyeongnam and Gyeongbuk, and I (1) in other regions.


This level of shaking is only noticeable to a few people in quiet conditions or on the upper floors of buildings.


In Gyeongnam Province, aside from one report in Yangsan of feeling the tremor, there were no other reports of feeling the earthquake or any damage.
