Namwon City in Jeonbuk will provide an emergency payment of 200,000 won per person, called the "Livelihood Stability Support Fund," to all citizens before the Lunar New Year holiday, in order to support residents struggling due to the economic downturn.

According to Namwon City on January 6, this support fund has been prepared in line with the city’s "Livelihood First" policy, aiming to ease the financial burden on households amid high inflation and the worsening economy for ordinary citizens, while also revitalizing the local economy by boosting sales for small business owners.

Notably, this measure is a proactive response by the city to address citizens’ sense of relative deprivation compared to neighboring counties that provide basic income, as well as to meet demands from various sectors of society for greater livelihood stability.

The total amount to be distributed is approximately 15 billion won. It is noteworthy that the funding for this support was secured through Namwon City's preemptive budget allocation efforts. The city received an 8.9 billion won incentive in recognition of its efforts to innovate subsidies and reduce expenditures in the "2026 Ministry of the Interior and Safety General Grant Self-Effort Expenditure Efficiency" category.

Additionally, by updating 95 types of basic statistical data and making frequent visits to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to advocate for Namwon’s fiscal needs, the city succeeded in securing an additional 13.5 billion won in local grants.

The city plans to work closely with the city council to swiftly propose the relevant ordinance and complete the first supplementary budget for 2026. All administrative procedures will be expedited so that citizens can receive the support fund before the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday.

An Soonyeop, Director of Planning and Coordination at Namwon City, stated, "The passion of our public officials, who worked tirelessly day and night to secure grants, has become the foundation for stabilizing the livelihoods of all citizens. We will do our utmost to quickly distribute the support fund so that it can boost sales for small business owners and bring warmth to the entire local economy."
