Minister Kim Yoonduk Meets U.S. Department of Energy: "Partners in Infrastructure Cooperation"

Attending the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Korea-U.S. Joint Project, the "Indiana Plant"

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on January 6 that Minister Kim Yoonduk met with James Danly, Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy, in Washington D.C. on the 5th (local time) to discuss expanding joint infrastructure projects and policy finance cooperation between the two countries. This meeting was arranged on the occasion of the groundbreaking ceremony for the Indiana Blue Ammonia Plant, a joint project between South Korea and the United States.


Deputy Secretary Danly emphasized that the Blue Ammonia Plant project is "a significant collaborative project between the two countries," and proposed further expanding cooperation by introducing additional potential projects such as potassium carbonate and lithium plants.


Minister Kim highlighted South Korea's competitiveness in overseas construction, stating, "This project is a representative example of collaboration, combining the Ministry's PIS Fund with U.S. policy finance." He added, "I hope that our joint projects will further strengthen the partnership between South Korea and the United States."

Immediately after the meeting, Minister Kim attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Blue Ammonia Plant later that day, saying, "I sincerely congratulate both South Korean and U.S. companies on the groundbreaking of this joint project," and expressed his hope that "this will mark a new turning point in construction cooperation between the two countries."


This project involves constructing an ammonia production plant in Indiana with an annual capacity of approximately 500,000 tons. The project will be funded by 83 billion won from the Ministry's PIS Fund and 1.5 billion dollars from U.S. policy finance. SAMSUNG E&A has been awarded the engineering and procurement contracts. The event was attended by Deputy Secretary Danly, U.S. Representative Jim Banks of Indiana, South Korean Ambassador to the U.S. Kang Kyungwha, and others.
