Hwacheon County Talent Development Foundation Announces Selection for 2026 First Semester Support
Full Reimbursement of Actual Tuition Paid and Monthly Housing Support up to 600,000 Won
Support for Local High School Seniors: Career Encouragement Grants During Vocational Training
Comprehensive educational support for talented individuals in Hwacheon, Gangwon Province will continue into the new year.
The Hwacheon County Talent Development Foundation (Chairman Choi Moonsun) announced on January 1, the first day of the new year, the selection notice for recipients of the 2026 first semester regional talent support program.
Applicants are eligible if the student's parents or legal guardians have resided in the Hwacheon area for at least three years, based on resident registration records.
Applications are accepted regardless of parental income, and for university students selected as beneficiaries, the foundation will cover the full amount of tuition fees actually paid, excluding national and university scholarships.
For first-year university freshmen, there is no academic performance requirement for the first semester.
For current students, if their previous semester’s GPA is 2.5 or higher (on a 4.5 scale), they are eligible to receive full financial support for tuition.
For students enrolled at one of the world’s top 100 universities, special support funds will be provided in varying amounts according to their parents’ income tax payments.
Notably, starting this year, the maximum monthly housing support for domestic university freshmen and current students has increased by 10% from the previous year, up to 600,000 won per month.
Additionally, a new housing support program has been established for both new and current students at the world’s top 100 universities, allowing them to receive support for the standard dormitory fees at their respective schools.
The Hwacheon County Talent Development Foundation is also supporting not only university students but also high school seniors preparing to enter the workforce.
The foundation provides full reimbursement of monthly housing rent, up to 500,000 won per month, for local high school seniors participating in vocational training or company internships.
Applications for the first semester scholarship, housing support, and career encouragement grants can be submitted in person at the Hwacheon County Office’s Education Welfare Division, located in the in-house library, from February 12 to 27.
Choi Moonsun, Chairman of the Talent Development Foundation and County Governor of Hwacheon, emphasized, "I hope that Hwacheon’s talented youth will keep their hearts in their hometown while pursuing their dreams in the wider world. We will do our utmost to ensure they can focus on their studies without financial worries."
