Professor Woongyang Park Appointed as New President of the Korean Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology for 2026

Professor Woongyang Park of Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine has been appointed as the new president of the Korean Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. President Park's term will begin in January 2026 and last for one year.

President Park graduated from Seoul National University College of Medicine and earned his master's and doctoral degrees at the same institution. He served as a professor in the Department of Biochemistry at Seoul National University College of Medicine until 2012. In recognition of his contributions to the advancement of medicine and life sciences, he received the Prime Minister's Commendation in 2016 and the Minister of Health and Welfare's Commendation in 2019. He is currently a professor in the Department of Molecular Cell Biology at Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine.

Under President Park's leadership, the Korean Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology plans to hold a large-scale international academic conference from May 27 to 29 at BEXCO in Busan, with approximately 3,000 participants. The conference, themed 'From Molecules to Megabytes: AI and Big Data Transforming Life Science,' will spotlight the future of life sciences as shaped by AI and big data.

The society stated, "As a leading academic society in the domestic bio field with over 20,000 members, we will focus our efforts on innovatively revitalizing academic exchanges both domestically and internationally, and on discovering and nurturing outstanding bio research talent together with the new president."
