Officer Kim Daehee Honored
A Total of 5,002 CCTVs Operated in Songpa-gu
Songpa-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Seo Gangseok) announced that a surveillance officer from the district's CCTV Integrated Control Center received a commendation from the Minister of the Interior and Safety in the "2025 Outstanding Operator of CCTV Integrated Control Centers" category.
This award is presented by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to employees of CCTV Integrated Control Centers in local governments and public institutions nationwide who have actively responded to various incidents and accidents, contributing to the prevention of crime and safety hazards. This year, six individuals were selected nationwide, with Kim Daehee from Songpa-gu being among the honorees.
Officer Kim was recognized for his swift and accurate surveillance activities that ensured the safety of residents in numerous cases, including the apprehension of a voice phishing money mule, assisting in the rescue of a senior citizen with dementia, apprehending a suspect in property damage, and capturing a knife-wielding assailant.
In fact, in January of last year, Officer Kim detected a scene where a bundle of cash was being handed over, and through focused CCTV monitoring, enabled the early arrest of a voice phishing suspect. In June of this year, he provided crucial evidence to the police during a knife attack incident, leading to the suspect's apprehension.
The district currently operates a total of 5,002 CCTVs installed on major roads, alleys, parks, and other key locations throughout the area. Seventeen surveillance officers at the CCTV Integrated Control Center monitor the feeds in shifts, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, ensuring the safety of residents through prompt responses to various incidents and accidents.
Over the past year, the district handled a total of 1,826 cases in cooperation with the police and fire departments, with surveillance officers proactively detecting and preventing 407 cases. They have contributed to resident safety by quickly identifying and reporting incidents such as juvenile delinquency, vehicle theft, dating violence, and drunk driving.
The district has also introduced 1,413 units of intelligent selective monitoring systems and an AI-based rapid search system for missing persons, utilizing these technologies to strengthen the safety net by assisting in the rescue of unconscious individuals, supporting the return of seniors with dementia, and early detection of suicide threats.
Seo Gangseok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, "This award is the result of the dedication and efforts of the Songpa CCTV Integrated Control Center staff to protect the lives and safety of our residents," adding, "We will continue to meticulously safeguard the daily lives of our residents and do our utmost to make Songpa a city that is safe 24 hours a day."
