Large-Scale Participation of Youth and University Teams
Driving Local Economic Revitalization
Hapcheon County in South Gyeongsang Province is driving the revitalization of the local economy during the winter tourism off-season by hosting winter soccer training camps at the artificial turf fields of Hapcheon County Sports Park from December through January.
This winter training camp will bring together a total of 53 teams from across the country, including 10 middle school teams, 36 high school teams, and 7 university teams, with approximately 2,000 participants. These teams will engage in intensive, game-oriented training, taking advantage of Hapcheon's excellent training environment. Notably, the high proportion of middle and high school teams demonstrates the region's competitiveness as a training destination that meets the broad needs of both youth development and elite athlete training.
Hapcheon County is equipped with an optimal sports infrastructure for training, including numerous artificial turf soccer fields and fitness facilities, all set within a pristine natural environment. The county has also continuously enhanced its lodging, convenience facilities, and administrative support, considering the long-term stays of the teams. This foundation has led to a virtuous cycle, with an increasing number of teams returning each year.
The extended stays of athletes, coaches, and staff during the training period are expected to have a significant ripple effect on the local economy. In addition to boosting local businesses such as lodging and restaurants, the training camps are also projected to enhance Hapcheon County’s brand value as a sports city.
A county official stated, "The growing number of teams choosing Hapcheon for their training camps each year is a result of trust in our training environment and administrative support. We will continue to expand our infrastructure and actively attract teams to establish Hapcheon as a premier destination for sports training camps."
Hapcheon County plans to further strengthen its status as a sports hub by continuing to host training camps in various sports, including soccer, and by attracting and organizing national-level soccer tournaments.
