"Enough is Enough" to U.S. Greenland Ambitions... Europe Shows Solidarity

Greenland and Denmark Push Back Against Trump's Repeated Remarks
Foreign Media: "UK and EU Call for Respect for Territorial Sovereignty"

Jens Frederik Nielsen, Prime Minister of Greenland, responded to U.S. President Donald Trump's territorial ambitions by saying, "Enough is enough." While he had previously used more indirect language, he adopted a firm stance after President Trump and other U.S. officials openly expressed their intentions. The European Union (EU) and individual European countries have shown solidarity.

According to foreign media outlets such as AFP and the BBC, Denmark has pushed back against the United States, stating that allies must respect territorial sovereignty. On January 5 (local time), it was reported that tensions in Europe are rising after the United States, following its military apprehension of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, once again displayed territorial ambitions toward Greenland, a territory of Denmark.

Prime Minister Nielsen warned, "No more pressure, no more hints, and no more illusions of annexation," emphasizing, "We are open to dialogue and discussion, but this must be conducted through the proper (official) channels and with respect for international law." Initially, when Greenland came into the spotlight due to the ousting of Maduro, he responded with moderate language.

However, when President Trump made stronger remarks, Nielsen criticized him in a much more forceful tone. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen stated, "The United States has no right to annex any of the three regions that make up the Kingdom of Denmark."

The EU and major European countries have sided with Denmark and Greenland, urging respect for territorial sovereignty. Anita Hipper, spokesperson for EU foreign policy, stressed, "The EU will continue to defend the principles of national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the inviolability of borders," adding, "These principles are universal values, and if the territorial integrity of any EU member state is challenged, we will never cease to defend it."

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated in a BBC interview that only Greenland and Denmark should decide Greenland's future. German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said that Greenland belongs to Denmark and that, if necessary, strengthening Greenland's protection at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) level could be discussed. French Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pascal Confavreux also told local broadcaster TF1, "Borders cannot be changed by force."

Podcaster Miller, who is both a close aide to President Trump and the wife of White House Deputy Chief of Staff Steve Miller, posted a provocative message reading "SOON" alongside a map of Greenland overlaid with the U.S. flag on the social media platform X just hours after the U.S. military completed its operation to apprehend President Maduro. President Trump has set his sights on Greenland since his first term in office. In an interview with a U.S. media outlet on January 4, following the military intervention in Venezuela, he stated that Greenland is necessary for U.S. defense.
