National Police Agency Holds 5th Heroes of Protecting the People's Economy Awards Ceremony

The National Police Agency announced on January 6 that it held the 5th Heroes of Protecting the People's Economy Awards Ceremony together with Shinhan Financial Group.

At this ceremony, ten individuals (five police officers and five civilians) were recognized for their contributions to preventing financial crimes affecting ordinary citizens, such as telephone financial fraud, and for apprehending criminals. Each recipient received a commendation or a letter of appreciation, along with a reward of 3 million won.


The Heroes of Protecting the People's Economy Award has been held annually since the National Police Agency and Shinhan Financial Group signed a business agreement in July 2021, with a total of 49 honorees selected and awarded to date.


This year, awardees included Police Lieutenant Kim Insik from Bupyeong Police Station of the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency, who investigated a total of 781 cases and apprehended 246 individuals, and Mr. Ki Changsun, a gold exchange operator who prevented losses of approximately 620 million won in three separate incidents.


Jin Okdong, Chairman of Shinhan Financial Group, stated, "Voice phishing crimes are becoming increasingly sophisticated, but thanks to the courageous decisions and actions of those present here, we have been able to protect the valuable assets of our neighbors. We will continue to fulfill our social responsibility to prevent financial fraud and provide relief to victims."


Yoo Jaeseong, Acting Commissioner General of the National Police Agency, said, "The Heroes of Protecting the People's Economy Award is the result of cooperation between the public and private sectors in responding to financial crimes affecting everyday citizens. We will continue to advance our analysis, prevention, and on-site response system centered on the Integrated Response Team for Telecommunications Financial Fraud to do our utmost to prevent harm to the public."
