Goheung County Achieves Record-High $124 Million in Agricultural and Marine Product Exports

No. 1 Among County-Level Local Governments Nationwide
Surpassing $100 Million in Exports for Three Consecutive Years

Goheung County in South Jeolla Province has rapidly emerged as a new hub for South Korea’s agricultural and marine product exports, ranking first among county-level local governments nationwide in the export sector for 2025.

On January 2, Goheung County announced that its provisional agricultural and marine product export performance for 2025 had reached 124 million dollars (approximately 179.5 billion won). This figure not only surpasses last year’s record, setting a new all-time high, but also represents the largest export amount among all county-level local governments in the country.

In particular, this achievement is being recognized as proof of the strong global competitiveness of Goheung’s agricultural and marine products, as it was accomplished by maintaining exports above 100 million dollars for three consecutive years, rather than as a one-off result.

This steep growth is attributed to Goheung County’s meticulous strategies. The county cited aggressive overseas sales and marketing, diversification of export markets, and tailored on-site support for businesses as the main drivers behind the increase in performance.

Goheung County focused on expanding its 'export territory' beyond its traditional key markets of the United States, Japan, and China, setting its sights on Southeast Asia and Europe, which have become epicenters of the K-food boom.

Additionally, county officials took a hands-on approach by directly participating in on-site promotional activities and organizing customized consultation sessions for overseas buyers. This field-oriented sales administration proved to be the decisive key in opening up new sales channels.

An official from the county’s Agricultural Policy Division emphasized, “This record-breaking export performance is the result of the perfect synergy between farmers and fishers who worked hard to produce high-quality products, export companies that pioneered overseas markets, and the administration.”

The official added, “We will focus not just on increasing volume, but on building a ‘premium brand image’ so that consumers can trust and choose products labeled ‘Goheung-produced.’ Moving forward, we will lead the globalization of ‘K-Goheung agricultural and marine products’ through customized support policies such as expanding participation in overseas expos, providing export logistics subsidies, and developing global packaging designs.”

Meanwhile, leveraging this achievement, Goheung County has raised its export target for 2026 to 150 million dollars (217 billion won) and plans to further accelerate the discovery of promising new export items and the development of its processing industry.
