The Yeosu City Gap District Committee of the Democratic Party of Korea (Chairman: Joo Chulhyun) held a "Seoul-Jeonnam Cooperation and Local Issues Meeting" on the afternoon of January 5, inviting Jung Wono, Mayor of Seongdong District in Seoul, who is originally from Yeosu, to the district committee meeting room.

This meeting was organized to welcome Mayor Jung Wono, who visited his hometown of Yeosu, and to strengthen the win-win strategy and "one team" cooperation system between Seoul and Jeonnam ahead of the local elections in June this year. The event drew significant attention, with more than 70 participants, including National Assemblyman Joo Chulhyun, city and provincial council members from Yeosu, and prospective candidates.

In his welcoming remarks, Assemblyman Joo Chulhyun introduced Mayor Jung Wono as "an administrator who was born and raised in Yeosu, recognized for his capabilities in Seoul, and a prepared leader with experience in both central and local government."

He especially emphasized, "As a senior and junior from Yeosu High School, I have observed Mayor Jung for a long time, and he is a person with outstanding policy expertise and a strong sense of balance. This meeting is both an opportunity to support a hometown junior and a meaningful time to expand opportunities for Seoul-Jeonnam cooperation."

In his greeting, Mayor Jung Wono expressed his deep affection for his hometown, saying, "Yeosu is the starting point of my life and the root of my political career." He added, "Life in Seoul has not been easy, but I have always kept my hometown in my heart," expressing gratitude for the warm welcome.

Mayor Jung further stated his belief that "victory begins in the field," and proposed Seoul-Jeonnam win-win cooperation, saying, "If Seoul's administrative experience is combined with the on-the-ground sensibility of eastern Jeonnam, we can create even greater change."

Regarding Assemblyman Joo Chulhyun, he responded, "As a senior who is proven in both practical and political affairs, I am confident that he will responsibly fulfill any role."

During the meeting, Mayor Jung shared his administrative know-how, which has led Seongdong District to become the top autonomous district in the nation, without reservation. There was also a wide-ranging discussion on local issues, including the successful hosting of the Yeosu World Island Expo, economic changes in the Yeosu Industrial Complex, and transportation and tourism infrastructure.

There is an assessment that Mayor Jung's direct engagement with local politicians in his hometown, at a time when he is being mentioned as a strong candidate for the next Seoul mayoral race, carries significant political symbolism beyond a simple visit.

The Yeosu City Gap District Committee decided to use this meeting as a starting point for win-win cooperation, where Seoul and Jeonnam share policies and visions, and to continue ongoing exchanges in the future.

Meanwhile, Mayor Jung Wono, who was born in Hyeoncheon-ri, Sora-myeon, Yeosu City, graduated from Hwayang Middle School and Yeosu High School, served as a National Assembly aide and is now a three-term mayor of Seongdong District in Seoul, has achieved outstanding results in urban regeneration and smart administration.
