High school students working part-time at a restaurant saved a customer who suddenly lost consciousness by performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

High School Students Save Elderly Customer While Working at Restaurant: "Learned CPR Nearly 10 Times from My Father" From the left, Ulsan Daesong High School students Jaegun Yoon and Hyunseo Moon from Hwaam High School, Ulsan Office of Education

According to the Ulsan Office of Education on January 5, Jaegun Yoon, a second-year student at Ulsan Daesong High School, and Hyunseo Moon, a second-year student at Hwaam High School, who are friends, were working their weekend part-time jobs at a restaurant in the Ilsanjihoe Center in Dong-gu, Ulsan, around 1:30 p.m. on December 28, when they heard the restaurant owner urgently shouting, "119, 119."

Curious about what was happening, the two students looked around the restaurant and saw an elderly man in his 80s sitting at a table, motionless and unresponsive.

Although the elderly man was accompanied by others, everyone seemed at a loss about what to do.

Upon witnessing this, Moon immediately rushed over, laid the elderly man on the floor, tilted his head back to secure his airway, and Yoon checked that the man was barely breathing and began chest compressions.

After about two minutes of chest compressions, the elderly man regained consciousness, and a few minutes later, the 119 emergency team arrived and safely transported him to the hospital.

The students' good deed became known after a witness posted about it on the school's social media network.

Yoon said, "I think I have learned CPR nearly 10 times since I was young, following my father, who is a special rescue team member at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries. The safety education I received at school also helped. I am truly happy that I was able to respond calmly in a real situation without panicking."

Park Sooyoung, principal of Daesong High School, said, "I am proud and impressed by the students who showed courage in a critical moment. We will further strengthen hands-on safety education based on this case."
