According to Yonhap News Agency on January 5, the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul booked a woman in her 20s, identified as A, without detention on suspicion of drunk driving.
A is suspected of driving under the influence from the Ichon Hangang Park parking lot 1 in Yongsan-gu until her car veered onto the tracks at the Seobinggo Northern Crossing at around 11:55 p.m. on the 4th.
Police officers who responded to the report conducted a breathalyzer test and found that A’s blood alcohol concentration exceeded the license cancellation threshold of 0.08%.
The passenger car driven by A ended up on the tracks and collided with a Gyeongui-Jungang Line train traveling from Hannam Station to Seobinggo Station. There were no injuries.
Due to the accident, 31 train passengers were evacuated. Passengers from the affected train, as well as two high-speed trains and two subway trains whose operations were disrupted, were guided by Korail staff to use alternative transportation to return home.
The collision caused the passenger car to become wedged against the train, resulting in damage to the right front side of the Gyeongui-Jungang Line train and the right rear side of the car. Police reportedly towed the car from the scene using a wrecker.
