"Addressing Workforce Imbalance at Gangwon Tax Offices"... National Tax Service to Recruit 21 Targeted Candidates

Starting with This Year’s Grade 9 Exam... Applications Open from February 2
Applicants Must Have Been Registered Residents of Gangwon for at Least Three Months

The National Tax Service announced on January 5 that, starting with this year's "Grade 9 National Public Official Tax Administration Open Competitive Recruitment Exam," a "Gangwon Regional Recruitment" system will be implemented to address the imbalance in workforce supply at tax offices in the Gangwon region.

The National Tax Service will recruit a total of 21 people through this process, and those who are ultimately selected will be required to work in the region for at least five years.

"Addressing Workforce Imbalance at Gangwon Tax Offices"... National Tax Service to Recruit 21 Targeted Candidates

Until now, tax offices in Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province have struggled to secure staff due to the wide jurisdictional areas and differences in living conditions compared to the Seoul metropolitan area. As a result, many employees without local ties have been assigned to the region, only to return to their hometowns after short-term assignments. This has repeatedly undermined the continuity of work at Gangwon offices and limited the ability to provide tax services tailored to local needs. In response, after discussions with the Ministry of Personnel Management, the National Tax Service decided to separately recruit locally customized talent with ties to Gangwon Province.

Applicants must have been registered residents of Gangwon Province for at least three consecutive months, including January 1, 2026. Applications will be accepted online through the National Public Official Recruitment System from February 2 to February 6.

The National Tax Service expects that the new Gangwon Regional Recruitment system will not only supplement the workforce but also bring substantial and positive changes to both the local community and exam candidates.

A National Tax Service official stated, "By creating quality jobs in the Gangwon region, we can prevent the outflow of talented local individuals, provide a foundation for young people to settle in their hometowns, and offer candidates with local ties an optimal opportunity to begin their public service careers near their place of residence. As excellent personnel familiar with the region's unique characteristics and local circumstances serve long-term, we anticipate more professional and consistent tax administration services."
