"Building a Safe Environment for Enjoying Content"
Protecting Youth from Harmful Videos
On January 5, domestic online video service TVING announced that it has implemented a “profile viewing rating setting feature” to ensure a safer and more comfortable content experience for its users.
This update was introduced to proactively establish an environment where users of all ages can enjoy content with greater peace of mind, as TVING’s content library has expanded and its service influence has grown. The newly introduced profile viewing rating feature allows users to directly set age ratings appropriate for themselves and their children on each profile.
The ratings are divided into five levels: ▲All ages ▲Ages 7 and up ▲Ages 12 and up ▲Ages 15 and up ▲Ages 19 and up (restricted to adults), offering a wider range of choices. The rating can be easily changed in the “Edit Profile” menu on both the mobile app and the web. Once a user selects the desired viewing rating and enters their account password, the setting is applied immediately. For accounts linked via social media, the rating can be set without entering a separate password.
Once the rating is set, the content list on the home screen is automatically filtered so that content above the designated age rating does not appear in the list.
Alongside the introduction of this feature, TVING is also participating in the “OTT Protection Mode: ON!” campaign, organized by the Korea Media Rating Board (KMRB), to strengthen youth protection. The campaign is designed to protect adolescents from harmful videos and to create a safer OTT viewing environment.
A TVING representative stated, “We have enhanced our features so that users can enjoy content in the most comfortable way according to their lifestyle and age,” adding, “Through various activities, including the KMRB campaign, we will take the lead in protecting youth and fostering a healthy OTT viewing culture.”
