Paju City in Gyeonggi Province announced on January 5 that it was selected as the top local government in the "2025 Regional Traffic Safety Environment Improvement Assessment," organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, after being evaluated among 243 local governments nationwide. As a result, the city received the Minister of the Interior and Safety Award (institutional commendation).
The "Regional Traffic Safety Environment Improvement Assessment" is a comprehensive evaluation of each local government's achievements and policy efforts regarding regional traffic safety environment improvement projects carried out over the year. In the case of Paju City, its continuous investment and systematic implementation of projects related to pedestrian safety and the protection of vulnerable road users received high marks.
In particular, the following initiatives were positively evaluated: improvement projects for children's protection zones, sidewalk installation projects, the establishment of a smart crosswalk system, and safety culture promotion activities to prevent traffic accidents.
Cho Chundong, Director of Road and Traffic at Paju City, stated, "Our tailored projects, such as expanding traffic safety infrastructure suited to local conditions, led to this positive evaluation," adding, "We will continue to do our best to create a people-centered traffic safety environment where citizens can travel with peace of mind."
