Zelensky Hopes for U.S. Summit on Peace Plan This Month

Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine, has proposed holding a summit on a peace plan in the United States this month.

According to the British daily The Guardian and Bloomberg News, President Zelensky made this statement at a high-level security meeting held in Kyiv on the afternoon of the 3rd (local time), noting that a delegation representing the administration of former U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to attend a meeting scheduled for the 6th in Paris, France.

On the 6th of this month, Paris will host the "Coalition of Will," an international summit for postwar security in Ukraine. Prior to this, a meeting of national leaders will be held in Paris on the 5th.

He stated, "The focus of the (Paris meeting) is security guarantees and reconstruction for Ukraine. There will also be a meeting with President Trump's team," adding, "After that, we will prepare for a summit in the United States. I hope this will happen by the end of January."

The meeting on the 3rd was attended in person by representatives from 15 countries, including major European nations and Canada, as well as the European Union (EU) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Steve Witkoff, President Trump's special envoy, also participated remotely. However, The Guardian noted that the meeting was overshadowed by the U.S. military attack on Venezuela.

The White House has not provided specific comments on whether a U.S. delegation will attend the Paris meeting on the 6th or what the next steps in the peace negotiations will be.

At a press conference that evening, President Zelensky explained that the "final details" regarding security guarantees for Ukraine would be discussed in Paris, and that the document on Ukraine's security guarantees would be subject to ratification by the parliaments of the countries participating in the "Coalition of Will."
