Sinan County Officially Launches Digital Sinan Culture Encyclopedia

Sinan County in South Jeolla Province, in collaboration with the Academy of Korean Studies, has officially launched the Digital Sinan Culture Encyclopedia website, which comprehensively covers the history and culture of Sinan County.

The Digital Sinan Culture Encyclopedia project began in May 2023 and is the 120th regional cultural digital encyclopedia completed nationwide. It is organized into nine fields: geography, history, cultural heritage, family names and figures, politics, economy, society, religion, culture and education, daily life and folklore, oral traditions, language, and literature.

For this project, more than 100 researchers from local research institutes and cultural organizations participated in writing and reviewing the content. A total of over 1,300 entries, 2,829 photographs, and 10 videos have been compiled, making it easy for anyone to search and access the information online and on mobile devices.

Notably, the special sections vividly capture the changes and achievements of Sinan County, reflecting its policies and current status, including the "One Island, One Museum" policy, the island landscapes blooming with flowers in all four seasons, various seafood festivals, Purple Island which was selected as a UN Best Tourism Village, and sustainable resident benefit-sharing models utilizing solar and offshore wind power.

Kim Daein, Acting Governor of Sinan County, stated, "We have presented the year-round attractions, pristine natural scenery, history, and culture of Sinan County, composed of 1,028 islands, through a variety of topics," adding, "We will continue to expand the discovery and support of digital cultural content to widely promote the value of the region."

The county plans to strengthen its digital archive of local culture through the Digital Sinan Culture Encyclopedia, while actively utilizing it as a resource for tourism and education to widely promote the history and culture of Sinan County both domestically and internationally.
