On January 2, Baek Seonghyun, Mayor of Nonsan in South Chungcheong Province, declared this year as the starting point for the city's industrial transformation. He announced plans to use the defense and military supply industry as a growth engine, enhance the competitiveness of agriculture, and strengthen the city's vitality through stay-type tourism. These efforts aim to attract new residents and create quality jobs by shifting policy direction accordingly.
In his New Year's address, Mayor Baek stated, "Setting goals and moving forward is what gives us the strength to endure today and serves as a milestone for tomorrow," adding, "I will work as one team with public officials to bring about new changes and progress."
He emphasized, "The reason we were able to successfully wrap up last year was thanks to the dedication of all public officials," and requested, "Please continue to move forward together this year, so that we do not hesitate to advance in what we believe is right."
This year, the city has set three major goals: enhancing the value and income of agriculture, realizing a happy life for citizens, and creating a vibrant city through population growth.
To achieve these goals, the city proposed the successful establishment of the defense and military supply industry, strengthening the international competitiveness of Nonsan’s agricultural and marine products, and developing Tapjeong Lake Resort as a stay-type tourist destination.
In particular, the city plans to position the defense and military supply industry as a key driver for attracting young people and increasing quality jobs, while linking agriculture and tourism to maximize the overall economic impact on the region.
Through these initiatives, the city aims to broaden its tax base and establish a sustainable growth structure.
