Opening the Path to Realizing the Vision of an Aerospace Convergence City in the New Year
On the morning of January 2, 2026, Sacheon City in South Gyeongsang Province (Mayor Park Dongsik) held its New Year’s Kickoff Ceremony for the Year of Byeong-o at 10 a.m. in the main auditorium of City Hall, with Mayor Park Dongsik, Deputy Mayor Kim Jehong, department heads, and all staff in attendance.
The ceremony included a city administration promotional video, commendations for outstanding public officials, and a New Year’s address. Before the official proceedings, Lee Jiyeon, a staff member from the 2025 Innovation Junior Board’s top team, presented ideas on improving organizational culture and work practices under the theme “Small but Certain Innovation from the Perspective of Millennials & Gen Z,” adding a fresh dynamic to the event.
In particular, the city presented five major priorities for this year’s administration: advancing as a global aerospace convergence city; establishing a marine and cultural tourism city where people want to stay; restoring the local economy and protecting neighborhood businesses; improving transportation and living environments while enhancing citizen safety; and building a welfare city where everyone, from children to seniors, can be happy.
During the commendation ceremony, a total of 13 employees were honored for their exemplary public service, including Prime Minister’s Commendations (Park Minkyeong, Park Hyuna, Bae Hyeongi, Kim Mikyung); Minister of the Interior and Safety Commendations (Kang Younguk, Ha Donghun); Minister of Health and Welfare Commendation (Yoo Jaehee); and Gyeongsangnam-do Governor’s Commendations (Jo Inyoung, Lee Hyunjin, Kang Sunmi, Park Yesle, Choi Jaehyung, Kim Suji).
Mayor Park Dongsik stated, “The year 2026 will be a decisive year for the next 100 years of Sacheon’s future, as the aerospace convergence city development project enters full swing. We must harness the momentum from the opening of the Aerospace Agency and unite the capabilities of all public officials and citizens to ensure the prompt enactment of the ‘Special Act on the Aerospace Convergence City.’”
He continued, “I express my deepest respect and gratitude to my colleagues who have fulfilled their duties as public servants despite challenging circumstances. I will continue to work together with you to create a ‘Vibrant Sacheon, Warm Sacheon’ where citizens can truly feel the changes, without losing our original commitment.”
Starting with this New Year’s ceremony, the city plans to strengthen intergenerational communication and innovate its organizational culture, while actively pursuing citizen-centered administration across all areas, including aerospace, marine tourism, and the local economy.
