Jintae Kim, Governor of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, is breaking the mold of a typical New Year's kick-off ceremony for the Year of the Fire Horse (2026) by transforming into a "Visible Radio" DJ, communicating with employees as he begins the year. Provided by Gangwon Province

On January 2, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province announced that it held a "Visible Radio" kick-off ceremony in the small conference room of the provincial government building, co-hosted by Governor Jintae Kim and Shin Jiheon, Chairman of the Provincial Government Labor Union. Governor Kim, who has insisted on a radio format for the ceremony every year since taking office, greeted everyone warmly, saying, "DJ Taedi is back after a year."

The broadcast highlighted major achievements of the provincial administration during 2025. These included the preliminary feasibility study approval for the Yongmun-Hongcheon metropolitan railway, the groundbreaking of three K-Semiconductor test bed projects in the Gangwon region, the preliminary feasibility study approval for the Taebaek and Samcheok Economic Development Project, and the start of the era of securing 10 trillion won in national funding for the first time. Governor Kim praised the employees for their hard work as he reviewed these key accomplishments.

Governor Kim emphasized, "The various achievements of the provincial administration are not the result of any one individual, but rather the outcome of the efforts of all employees who did their best in their respective positions."

In particular, Governor Kim showed a personal side by sharing his thoughts about taking a train trip with his son from Gangneung to Busan and welcoming his first grandchild. He remarked, "I still firmly believe that the happiness of our employees leads to the happiness of our residents. I am grateful and pleased that both the satisfaction and happiness of our residents increased last year. Let's work even harder together this year."

Shin Jiheon, who co-hosted the event, stated, "I will listen to the voices of our employees as closely as possible and take responsibility for communicating the necessary messages."

During the event, employees' stories were shared, and Governor Kim answered questions about his favorite comfort food and stress relief methods. The ceremony concluded with Governor Kim personally delivering rice cakes and New Year's greetings to six departments selected by lottery.
