On January 2, the first trading day of the New Year, the KOSPI set a new all-time intraday high. At the "2026 Securities and Derivatives Market Opening Ceremony" held at the Korea Exchange in Yeouido, Seoul, key figures including Lee Eogwon, Chairman of the Financial Services Commission, Lee Chanjin, Governor of the Financial Supervisory Service, and Jeong Eunbo, Chairman of the Korea Exchange, announced the opening of this year's market in front of the KOSPI market board. As of 10:12 a.m. that day, the KOSPI stood at 4,235.57, up 21.40 points (0.51%) from the previous trading day.
