Hongcheon County in Gangwon Province (Governor Shin Youngjae) announced on January 2 that the 'FIBA 3X3 Hongcheon Challenger 2026,' scheduled to be held in 2026, has been selected for the third consecutive year in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's 'International Sports Event Support Program for Local Governments.'
The 'International Sports Event Support Program for Local Governments' is a government-funded initiative that selects competitive international events hosted by local governments across the country and provides national funding. This year, 23 events from 13 cities and provinces were chosen. The 'FIBA 3X3 Hongcheon Challenger 2026' was ultimately selected as a recipient for 2026 and secured 240 million won in national funding.
Shin Youngjae, Governor of Hongcheon County, stated, "Hongcheon County, the Hongcheon County Sports Council, and the Korea 3X3 Basketball Federation will work closely together to ensure the successful hosting of the FIBA 3X3 Hongcheon Challenger 2026. We will continue our efforts to attract international tournaments so that Hongcheon County can grow into a global hub for 3X3 basketball, not only in Korea but also worldwide."
Meanwhile, the 'FIBA 3X3 Hongcheon Challenger 2026' will be held for four days starting September 10 this year, with 140 athletes from 14 countries expected to participate. Various side events, including the '2026 KXO 3X3 Hongcheon Lite Quest' and the '2026 Military 3x3 Hongcheon Challenger,' are also being prepared to make the tournament even more vibrant.
