Park Seungwon: "Expanding child-rearing support to make the city better for raising children"
Gwangmyeong City in Gyeonggi Province is significantly increasing its first birthday congratulatory payment for newborns.
On January 2, Gwangmyeong City announced that starting this year, the "Ijoa First Birthday Congratulatory Payment" will be raised by 100,000 to 300,000 won compared to last year. This support provides a congratulatory payment in the form of the local currency "Gwangmyeong Love Gift Certificate" to parents of children born in Gwangmyeong City who are celebrating their first birthday.
The payment will be increased as follows: for the first child, from 500,000 won to 600,000 won; for the second child, from 600,000 won to 800,000 won; and for the third child or more, from 700,000 won to 1,000,000 won.
Previously, in 2024, the city became the first local government in the Seoul metropolitan area to introduce the first birthday congratulatory payment system, providing a flat payment of 500,000 won. Last year, the payment amount was differentiated according to the number of children.
The revised payment standards will apply to infants born last year. For more information, residents can contact their local administrative welfare center, the civil service call center, or the Women and Family Division at Gwangmyeong City Hall.
The city aims to further strengthen social responsibility for childbirth and child-rearing through this expanded support, and to enhance the effectiveness of its policies addressing low birth rates.
Park Seungwon, Mayor of Gwangmyeong, stated, "This project represents the city's commitment to take collective responsibility for the growth of every child," adding, "We will continue to expand support for child-rearing that parents can truly feel, making Gwangmyeong a city where it is easy to have and raise children."
